The Highlands

City of Eternal Spring

Jarabacoa sits at 530 meters in the heart of the Cordillera Central -- the Dominican Republic's mountain spine and home to the highest peaks in the Caribbean. Year-round temperatures average 22°C, earning it the name "City of Eternal Spring." Just 90 minutes from Santo Domingo, it is the country's premier mountain destination.

Rivers & Waterfalls

Land of Waters

The Taino named this valley Jarabacoa -- "Land of Waters." The Rio Yaque del Norte, the Caribbean's longest river at 300 kilometers, runs through the region. The Jimenoa and Baiguate waterfalls draw visitors year-round, and the surrounding rivers offer world-class rafting and kayaking.

Gastronomy

A Table Worth the Trip

For a mountain town of 40,000, Jarabacoa punches well above its weight at the table. Two Michelin-starred chefs -- the only ones in the country -- have chosen to operate here. Maria Marte, the first Latin American woman to earn two Michelin stars, returned to her hometown to open Cayena at Jarabacoa Country Club. Adille Languil brings his Michelin-trained pedigree to Balcon, a mountaintop restaurant with panoramic valley views. Beyond fine dining, local coffee farms and traditional Dominican kitchens round out a food scene that rivals any coastal resort.
